Normalizes blood pressure and prevents atherosclerosis

High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of death in spite  of the remarkable development in therapeutic methods. High blood pressure increases the onset frequency of cardiac disorders such
as angina pectoris, myocardic infarction, sudden death from cardiac dysfunction, etc.

It was found that Korean Red Ginseng contained active ingredients that normalize blood pressure.
In other words, Korean Red Ginseng exerts dual activities. Dr. Yamamoto at the Nissei Hospital,
Japan carried out a multi-centric clinical study. A total of 316 patients - 74 cases of high blood
pressure, 207 cases of normal blood pressure and 35 cases of low blood pressure- were recruited
from 13 hospitals in Japan. Korean Red Ginseng was administered at a dose of 3-6 g/day, 3 times
a day between meals. Ginseng induced no significant change in blood pressure in those subjects
with normal blood pressure.

However, ginseng demonstrated, in general, a normalizing effect on the subjects with abnormal
blood pressure. A placebo-controlled clinical study was carried out by the Department of Internal
Medicine in the School of Medicine at Seoul National University. Korean Red Ginseng powder was
given at a daily dose of 4.5 g for 8 weeks to subjects with mild-to-moderate essential high blood
pressure. Administration of ginseng decreased systolic blood pressure. In particular, the blood
pressure lowering effect was observed mainly at daytime and dawn when the occurrence of
hypertension-derived complications like cerebral apoplexy escalated.

Dr. Kuwashima in the Department of Internal Medicine, Matsuyama Hospital, Japan gave Korean
Red Ginseng powder to 19 essential hypertensive subjects at a daily dose of 3 g, 3 times a day,
for 12 weeks. Significant decreases in systolic blood pressure were observed with marked
improvement in quality of life (QOL) effecting insomnia, thirst, fatigue, sexual dysfunction and
euphoria (mood) in 89% of the patients.

A total of 66 hypertensive patients enrolled in China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing, China were
treated with Korean Red Ginseng at a daily dose of 3 g for 6 weeks and parameters pertinent to
blood pressure were investigated in compliance with the evaluation criteria of the Chinese Ministry
of Health. The beneficial role of Korean Red Ginseng in cases of high blood pressure was observed
in 53% of the subjects and 60% of the patients in general
demonstrated improvement.

Another clinical experiment was conducted at the hospital with 79 hyperlipidemia patients. Patients
given Korean Red Ginseng at a daily dose of 3 g for 2 months significantly improved lipid metabolism.
