It has been thought that sexual dysfunction depended largely on psychological agony or mental
stress except for organic disorders. Professor Yoshimura's group at the School of Medicine,
Ehime University, Japan stated that saponin from Korean Red Ginseng improved sexual disorders
induced by psychological stress in animals study.
Although Korean Red Ginseng's mechanism of action on erectility is not clearly understood,
recent in vitro and in vivo experiments supported that ginseng extract and saponin relax corpus cavernosal smooth muscle. The relaxation was found to be due to the stimulation of cGMP and
nitric oxide release.
In addition, Korean Red Ginseng is effective for the control of diabetes mellitus, high blood
pressure, cholesterolemia, aging, etc., all of which can play detrimental role in sexual ability.
It was demonstrated in an experiment that treatment with Korean Red Ginseng protected rats from
erectile dysfunction induced by diabetes.
Korean Red Ginseng is not as potent as viagra as an agent that can alleviate erectile disorder.
However, ginseng can be taken for a longer period of time without side effects. Furthermore,
ginseng plays a beneficial role in alleviation of underlying disease.
