| Enhances brain activity benefiting the psycho-neurological system |

In Oriental medicine, ginseng is referred to as an agent that
stimulates brain activity, invigorates mental capacity, improves
vision, audition, power of thought and memory, thereby enhancing
concentration. The early 1960s, Russian scientists suggested
that ginseng improved mental and intellectual performance in
people. I Later, animal and clinical experiments carried out with Korean Red Ginseng as well as with the active ingredients isolated from the red ginseng have further supported the beneficial role of ginseng in brain activity. Ginseng extract and ginseng saponin improved memory acquisition, physical performance and learning disorders, and confronted loss of memory in a memory-damaged animal model. Recently, Dr. Chepunov's research group in the Department of Biology, Moscow State University found that Korean red ginseng saponin improved memory and learning capacity in a Y-maze experimental model. Problems with space recognition used to comprehend direction and place are a common symptom observed in dementia patients. Saponin from Korean Red Ginseng improved space recognition in the Morris water maze animal test. Furthermore, ginsenoside Rg1, one of the major ginseng saponin was found to enhance memory recall and acquisition, and suppressed disorders related to aging. Based on these results, Dr. Zhang in the Chinese Academy of Medicine stressed that ginsenoside Rg1 might be usefully applied to the treatment of brain aging and Alzheimer's disease. Particularly, it was further shown by an animal experiment that Korean Red Ginseng and its active ingredient protected brain nerve cells from damage, thus improving memory acquisition and reducing problems from memory disorders. |
