Protects the liver and detoxifies alcohol

It was found that ginseng saponin stimulated protein biosynthesis and liver cell regeneration. Ginseng saponin alleviated liver cell necrosis induced by various toxic chemicals and protected the
liver by activating enzymes involved in detoxification of xenobiotics.

Professor Koo at the Hanyang University, Korea reported that administration of Korean Red Ginseng powder to acute B-type hepatitis patients improved subjective symptoms such as appetite, digestion, headache, nausea and vomiting, thus preventing transition of acute hepatitis to chronic hepatitis.

Dr. Yamamoto at the Department of Internal Medicine, Nissei Hospital, Japan stated that
medication with Korean red ginseng of chronic C-type hepatitis patients improved biochemical parameters associated with liver function and the effect was enhanced by co-treatment with red
ginseng and Shoshihou-tou, an herbal medicinal prescription.

Furthermore, ginseng saponin increases enzyme activity involved in ethanol and acetaldehyde degradation, which in turn mitigate deleterious effect of ethanol and prevent the liver from attaining
alcohol toxicity.

The same result was found in an experiment with human subjects, in which subjects who were
given ethanol with Korean Red Ginseng extract demonstrated a significantly lower level of blood
ethanol concentration (0.11%) 40 minutes after drinking than the control group did (0.18%).
