|
A total of one hundred patients with comprising chronic
gastritis (20 cases), stomach ulcers (22), psychosomatic
disorders (25), and atherosclerosis (23) were enrolled to study
the clinical effect of Korean Red Ginseng powder. Administration of Korean Red Ginseng at a daily dose of 2.7 g significantly improved subjective symptoms of stomachaches, fatigue, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, cold in extremities, pale complexions, lumbago, and headaches. The rate of improvement in placebo-treated group was 26-38% and that of red ginseng-treated group was 68-80%. Dr. Kuwsahima, former executive director of the Matsuyama Red Cross Hospital, summarized the clinical efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng for the prevention of complication onset and progression of diseases, and improvement of the quality of life in light of his clinical trials and other clinical studies done in Japan. Clinical application of Korean Red Ginseng Combined use of Korean Red Ginseng and Western medicine (chemical agent) would be more promising in the followings. 1. Long-term and high quality control of diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and atherosclerosis -related disorders might be possible due to the inhibitory effect of ginseng on the onset of chronic complications, progression of the diseases, facilitation of blood circulation and improvement of patients' quality of life. 2. Alleviation of pain derived from malignant tumors, improvement of subjective symptoms such as loss of appetite, and possible suppression of side effect from chemotherapy. 3. Improvement of unsettled complaints and alleviation of symptoms associated with hepatitis, anemia and rheumatoid disorders. Single treatment of ginseng would be possible in the followings: 1. For the control of disorders derived from peripheral blood circulation, such as post-menopausal disorders, psychroesthesia, and neurological dysfunction. 2. For the recovery of physical strength after operations and illness; for the strengthening of non- specific resistance, e.g., infectious diseases. Clinical application as a health promoting adjunctive: Prevents fatigue in healthy or the elderly persons; improves work efficiency; helps maintain healthy life by alleviating psychosomatic stress; strengthens non-specific resistance, e.g., infectious diseases. |
