Improves post-menopausal disorders

Post-menopausal disorders are the most common diseases in women and manifest at the age of 50 when ovarian function decreases. The subjects complaint of flushing, coldness of hands
and legs, insomnia, nervousness, depression, languor, arthralgia and lumbago but the severity and onset time is variable depending on the individual.

Hormone therapy is the most predominant treatment for climacteric disturbance. However, it
induces side effects such as abnormal weight gain, stomach and liver dysfunction, growth of
uterus myoma, and increase in uterus (hysterocarcinoma) and breast cancers. Accordingly,
treatment of the climacteric disturbance by health adjunctive, e.g., ginseng, with no side effects
in spite of long period of medication is recommended.

Professor Ogita at the Department of Obsterics and Gynecology, Osaka City University Medical
school, Japan studied the clinical effect of Korean Red Ginseng on post-menopausal disorders
for several years. Medication with red ginseng powder of 83 patients at a dose of 6 g/day for 1
month decreased menopausal index in more than 80% of the subjects. Improvement of cold in
extremities, ovarian dysfunction and digestive disorders was the most notable.

Professor Ogita's group also performed a dose-dependent clinical effect of Korean Red Ginseng
on patients with mild to moderate climacteric disturbance. Red ginseng was given to 80 subjects
for 2 months. Sleeplessness, nervousness, dizziness, ovarian dysfunction and digestive disorders
improved at a dose of 4.5 to 6.0 g/day, and depression and sexual function at a dose of 1.5 to
3.0 g/day.

Professor Tode, National Defense Medical College, Japan investigated the effect of Korean Red
Ginseng on mental and physical symptoms of 12 subjects with moderate severity of the post-
menopausal disorder. Korean Red Ginseng was given at a daily dose of 6 g for 30 days.

Significant improvement in depression, insomnia and fatigue were observed together with the normalization of cortisol and DHEA, hormones associated with stress and aging.
